Newborn baby sleeping on cotton towel

As a new or expecting mom, we know that your main goals are to keep your baby healthy, happy and safe. And at Burt’s Bees one of our main goals is to help you do that. That’s why when you use our natural products, you can trust you’re giving your baby the best. Products that are gentle on baby’s delicate skin to give them a comforting start to life.

But do you know just how delicate babies’ skin really is? According to Healthy Child Healthy World, their skin is 20-30% thinner than adult skin. And since skin is the largest organ and absorbs what we put on it, we need to take extra-special care of it—for your baby and for you.

Our mission is to make people’s lives better every day—naturally. We empower mothers, soon-to-be-mothers, people who know mothers (you get the point) to make smarter, better lifestyle choices for their children. But this isn’t just a mission we talk about so we look good. We actually live it.

Watch the Natural Baby Care video to see how easy it is to nurture as nature intended.

Natural ingredients baby soap

You’ll never see anything we make with phthalates, parabens, petrolatum, SLS, or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives because we know those aren’t what’s best for your baby’s delicate skin. Instead, we choose to use natural ingredients.

Ingredients like Buttermilk to keep baby’s skin moisturised, Beeswax to help lock in moisture, Shea Butter to soften dry skin, Aloe Vera to soothe and Coconut Oil to help nurture sensitive skin. And all our products are made with 100% natural fragrances. So even that heavenly “baby smell” is all natural!

These ingredients are found across our Baby Bee® product line because they are all safe, gently nurturing and naturally effective. We know we don’t just have a responsibility to you, but also to the most important thing person in your world—your baby.

That’s where we come in. We make our products just like you would—with simple, natural ingredients and a whole lot of love.

Baby Care Tips

Three babies lying down showing their feet

Being a mom is one of most rewarding jobs, but it’s also one of the toughest. Especially if you’re a first time parent. We know it can be very overwhelming at first, so we’ve partnered with Healthy Child Healthy World to share some
of their quick baby care tips. Perfect to add to any parenthood arsenal.

    • Keep it natural.

Adult products may contain harsh chemicals and fragrances that may not be best for babies’ delicate skin, so it’s best to stick to products that are natural and are made specifically for babies.

    • 15 ingredients to avoid.

      •DMDM Hydantoin
      •2-Bromo-2-Nitropane-1,3-Diol (Bronopol)
      •DEA (Diethanolamine)
      •MEA (Monoethanolamine)
      •TEA (Triethanolamine)
•Formaldehyde Releasers (Imidazolidinyl Urea, Quaternium-15,Diazolidinyl Urea)
      •Polyethylene Glycol (PEGs)
      •Sodium Borate
      •Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
•Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
      •Fragrance (Phthalates)

    • Say no to talc powder.

Use an alternative natural powder that contains cornstarch.

  • Use gentle detergents.

Remember, not only is your baby’s skin sensitive to the clothes he or she wears, but also to the clothes you are wearing when you’re snuggling. Switch to a gentle laundry detergent that won’t leave behind any residue.

  • Limit baths.

With all the diaper changing and general everyday cleanup, babies don’t need daily baths, which tend to dehydrate their delicate skin.

  • Try time without a nappy.

Diaper rash is a common problem, but the solution can be simple. First, try a bit of air circulation. Just make sure to lay your baby on something washable.

  • Use beeswax.

Look for diaper creams and salves that contain these natural ingredients. They work to naturally keep moisture away from skin. It’s also good to try to avoid creams with synthetic fragrance, BHA, parabens and sodium borate.

  • Use washcloth & water.

It’s a great alternative to disposable wipes during a diaper change. For times when only wipes will do, choose fragrance-free products.

  • Limit sun time.

Babies’ skin is super sensitive to sun; it’s best to keep babies under six months old covered up.

  • Use a PABA-free sunscreen.

And it’s also helpful to dress your baby in loose cotton in conjunction with the UVA and UVB sunscreen.

  • Avoid SPFs higher than 50.

Anything that is higher than 50 is not guaranteed to be more effective. It’s best to stick with an SPF 30 and just make sure to reapply regularly throughout the day.

  • Avoid misting sunscreens.

While they may seem convenient, spray bottles of misting sunscreen put you and your baby at risk for inhaling sunscreen particles.

  • A whitish hue is good.

Look for products with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
